Folic Acid
Folic acid plays a role in many different functions in the body. Folic acid, which is involved in the synthesis of nitrogenous organic bases for the copying of DNA and RNA during cell division and the production of various cells, plays a key role especially in the maturation of red blood cells.
The need for folic acid increases during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During these periods, it becomes a little more difficult to meet the need through food. For this reason, it is recommended to take folic acid supplements to prevent a possible deficiency. Adequate folic acid intake supports rapid growth and prevents the development of neural tube defects in the fetus. It is recommended that every pregnant woman take 400 micrograms (Mcg) of folic acid pills per day in addition to the folate taken from the diet.
Vitamin D - Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is a vitamin necessary for the production of red blood cells and for the normal functions of the heart, brain and other nervous system structures. Failure to recognize a deficiency in this vitamin and therefore not being able to intervene can negatively affect a person's normal brain functions and lead to nerve damage.
Vitamin D is vital for both mother and baby during pregnancy. The function of vitamin D is to regulate blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. These elements are used during pregnancy for bone and tooth development of your baby as well as yours. If there is a deficiency of vitamin D during pregnancy, the baby may experience developmental delays and skeletal disorders. We also know that it affects the baby's birth weight. In the last 3 months of pregnancy, the baby's need for calcium and phosphorus for bone formation increases.
Iodine
Iodine helps the baby's brain and nervous system develop during pregnancy. Iodine deficiency is the most common preventable cause of mental retardation and brain damage in the world. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy can also play a role in miscarriage, pregnancy toxicity, postpartum hemorrhage, premature birth and fetal death.
